The last assignment in my oil painting class was figure painting. I was a bit nervous to start since I had only started to oil paint a few weeks before. For the record, it does not quite look like the original photo but my instructor informed me that most artists never do
. Overall, I both love and hate the painting. I keep going back and forth but that means that there is something there.

In my oil painting class, I had to do a reproduction of a famous master’s painting. Because I have a love of color, I chose Van Gogh to work from. I was instantly attracted to the deep blues in the sky and the contrast within the fields. Hope you enjoy.

I do not paint and have not done it since the brand mural I did way back with my BF Kirsten. At the time, that was my first painting ever! This summer, I decided to take an oil painting class at Callanwolde to get me back into creating art again. Above is the first piece I did for the class…a still life of a red pepper. The piece was a lot of fun for me. I especially liked discovering that I do not need black to do the shadows of the cloth fabric. Who knew!!

I personally believe that to be an artist, you have to constantly push your self into doing something new in order for you to grow. This work is it. I personally never have painted before but this work was my first true attempt at it. After months of Sunday’s working on it with my BF Kirsten, we finally completed it. What started out as just a project to decorate her office, turned into one of the best projects I have worked on in my life. Not only did I learn to paint better, I also became closer to one of my best friend in the world. I hope you enjoy and can find and identify your favorite brand icon.
